The Unfiltered Truth About Superintendency

This month’s Superintendent Collaborative meeting welcomed nearly 65 members for an important discussion on the heavy challenges that school districts are facing nationwide. Our guest speaker, Carolyn Lyons of Middleborough Public Schools, shared her experience leading and supporting her school district during the difficult years post-COVID.

With a student mental health epidemic, equity gaps, malaise amongst faculty and staff, and untenable demands in the community, the challenges superintendents face are similar among many districts. Today’s discussion revolved around a common theme: What gives you hope?

Carolyn shared her passion for her superintendency and her desire to prove to the community that the work they are doing is worth it.

“If I can’t be a model for the kids watching me, then what am I doing in the seat? You have to be fearless,” she said. “I believe that education has to speak for all.”
